The teacher observation form is a tool used by K-12 instructional leaders to assess and evaluate teachers' performance in the classroom. It consists of several sections, including Standards/Indicators/Objectives, Teacher, Students, Assessing/Assessment, Environment, and Closing Comments. Each section focuses on specific aspects of the teacher's instructional practices and classroom management. The form includes a series of questions that address various elements of effective teaching. These questions cover areas such as the visibility and clarity of stated standards, indicators, and objectives, the presence of essential questions, and the alignment of the lesson with the identified indicators. The form also assesses the teacher's ability to plan tiered instruction, match activities with indicators, and effectively use technology in the classroom. Observations are made regarding the students' engagement and participation in the lesson. This includes their attentiveness to instruction, level of engagement with activities and technology, collaboration with peers, use of manipulatives, and involvement in accountable academic talk. The form also evaluates the teacher's ability to differentiate instruction at different levels of cognitive complexity and to ask questions that promote higher-order thinking skills. The form further assesses the teacher's ability to provide closure and review of the lesson, as well as the visibility and availability of anchor charts and word walls. The organization and cleanliness of the classroom, as well as the display of student work, are also considered. The form concludes with a section for general closing comments.
