This teacher observation form is designed to assess the effectiveness of a Reader's Workshop mini lesson. The form includes questions about the length of the mini lesson, the components observed during the lesson, the teaching point, active engagement, types of active engagement seen, and whether the focus or standard of the mini lesson was posted or written in lesson plans. The form also asks whether the focus of the mini lesson was evident in the teaching, and whether there was a gradual release of the skill being taught. Finally, there is space for general comments.
