The teacher observation form is a tool used by K-12 instructional leaders to assess and evaluate various aspects of a teacher's performance in the classroom. It is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the teacher's instructional practices, lesson planning, learning environment, instructional delivery, assessments, and overall effectiveness. The form is divided into several sections, each focusing on a specific area of observation. These sections include Starting Information, STEAM Best Practices, Instructional Design and Lesson Planning, Learning Environment for Classroom Teachers, Instructional Delivery & Facilitation, Assessments, and Finals Comments. Within each section, there are specific questions that the observer must answer based on their observations during the class period. These questions cover a wide range of topics, such as the segment of the class period observed, common board configuration, classroom look-fors, SIP goals (such as Cornell Notes, Talk Moves, and eBeam), school-wide initiatives (such as Text-Based Writing), collaboration, technology integration, real-world application, student discovery, and collaborative strategies. The form also assesses the teacher's ability to set instructional outcomes and align instruction with state-adopted standards, design instruction using student prior knowledge and diagnostic data, monitor learning and student acquisition of standards, require students to understand and demonstrate skills and competencies, create and maintain a safe and organized learning environment, promote a flexible and inclusive learning environment, allocate and manage time, space, and resources, manage student conduct, create a positive environment of respect and rapport, model and teach clear communication skills, maintain a climate of inquiry, and utilize various instructional strategies. Overall, the teacher observation form serves as a valuable tool for instructional leaders to assess and provide feedback on a teacher's performance in various areas of instruction. It helps identify areas of strength and areas for improvement, ultimately supporting the professional growth and development of teachers in K-12 schools.
