The teacher observation form is a tool used by instructional leaders in K-12 schools to assess the effectiveness of a teacher's lesson. The form is divided into several sections, each focusing on a different aspect of the classroom environment and management. These sections include the absence of clutter, management of the classroom, immersion/student work area, teacher's location to instruction, teaching and learning, content-specific, assessment, and final thoughts. The form includes questions related to the time of the lesson, current outline of the day's activities, text written in alternating colors, pictures/symbols accompanying text, items checked-off as complete, keyword standards/kid grabbing titles, direct teaching area, cubbies/coat hook area, walls well-managed, countertops, tables, teacher's desk, and other. The form also includes questions related to the use of affirmative and corrective feedback, supervision of students in and out of the classroom, student engagement and behavior, and the alignment of the lesson with SCCCR content standards. The form is designed to provide instructional leaders with a comprehensive assessment of the teacher's performance and to identify areas for improvement.
