The teacher observation form is a tool used by K-12 instructional leaders to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of a teacher's instruction. The form is divided into several sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of teaching. These sections include SEL and PBIS, Standards Based Instruction, Effective Teaching Strategies, Reading Strategies (WICOR), Writing Strategies (WICOR), Adopted Instructional Material Usage, and Engagement. Each section contains a set of questions that are designed to elicit evidence and comments from the observer. The questions are aimed at assessing the teacher's ability to create a collaborative learning environment, support individual reading, writing, inquiry, and communication goals, establish a classroom culture conducive to responsive teaching, engage students in reading and writing, draw conclusions about the meaning intended by authors, make authentic connections between learning and reading/writing outside of school, align learning targets with standards, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to learners. Overall, the teacher observation form is a valuable tool for instructional leaders to evaluate and improve the quality of teaching in K-12 schools.
